- "When I was there, we had three physicians who treated Kennedy: Dr. Travell, Admiral Burkley, and myself. We also had six navy corpsmen. These corpsmen were trained and had been taught an exercise program by one of our consultants, Dr. Hans Krauss [sic]." [Toole p515]
- "I was there for three and a half years, and I decided I wanted to go back to academic medicine. At that time, I was also handling a ward at Bethesda Naval Hospital -- supervising residents and interns. I felt it was not quite what I wanted, and I didn't want to continue. I was a young man, thirty-six or thirty-seven years of age, and I had a long way to go. ... I went to an academic position as assistant chief of medicine at Oakland Naval Hospital." [Toole pp516-517]
